bookcase...

We have often thought thought how useful it would have been to be married to a doctor (no more wondering if the kids have an ear infection), car mechanic (would save us a fortune on servicing) or architect (to design our ideal homes free of charge!). However, although our husbands are none of these things, they are pretty useful. My hubby is a whiz with all things technical and does a superb job with our mondocherry website, and JJ's husband loves to build things for around the home and for our market stalls.

This is a open fronted bookcase that JJ's hubby whipped up on the weekend to display some of their children's books in the playroom. Rather than simply painting it, we were thinking how lovely it would look with some wallpaper along the back - any ideas on where we can get a small amount of wallpaper rather than having to buy a whole roll (a quick look on ebay didn't reveal much)?

Try a nice paper shop, like Pepe's Paperie.. they have nice big sheets and good quality, and you can just use double sided tape and then you can replace/swap it easy later on. I did that for the back of a display cabinet. However it doesn't get as much use as a bookcase in a playroom would! Love you blog!

How about using some scrapbooking paper? They come in such pretty patterns and colours..Otherwise you can try getting an assortment of wallpaper samples and using those in a sort of a collage...
The shelf looks great!

Would look great with some wallpaper. Ask at a store in your area that would use wallpaper in their displays. Or for old wallpaper books that contain deleted designs. We'll often sell these sorts of things in our annual sale. Magnolia in your area could be a place to ask.

Rather than wallpaper, what about cutting cardboard to fit and wrapping that with a fabric you love-- fitting it right into the spot.

I saw a really pretty girls bedroom wallpapered with a patchwork of different pieces, looked great! My hubbies at University training to be an audiologist so i need never worry about the earache thing- but you wouldnt want to see the books he leaves lying around- ear surgery photos are quite vile!

What a beautiful book shelf. Such a great idea to display face out. Books as art - stunning!

Love it - found you through link on apartment therapy kids. Where'd you get those great fabric letters (and please don't say you made them yourself).
