a reservation for Clare, please...

Joy has been sending me some photos of her new house as she has been settling in (via her phone as her computer has finally gone to the Dell graveyard after putting up a brave fight for many months!) One of my favourite photos is this one of her guest room. Joy says that it still needs a rug and some more artwork, but the beautiful blue and pink colour scheme looks very welcoming to me and I can't wait to book a flight down!

What a lovely room. Can I please ask a little advice on two white fronts. I have some dark Balinese style furniture that I am thinking of painting white - any good tips and also I am looking at investing in the Ikea slip cover sofas and wanted some advice on how you guys manage to keep yours clean with kids and pets. Many thanks Carolyn

Hi Carolyn, I have had the white slipcovered IKEA sofas for 4 years now and they are fabulous. They get absolutely filthy, but I throw them in the washing machine with some Napisan and they come up beautifully. I haven't had to resort to bleach yet, but know it is always there for a last resort. They give you a great workout getting them on and off! If you can put them on ever so slightly damp, all the creases drop out too. As for painting furniture white, I am no expert - I try to clean it well, give it a good sand a use a primer. I know that Sarah from abeachcottage.com has lots of tips for painting furniture on her blog. Hope that helps.
